It's great that Be Lenka has noticed that people want barefoot shoes for different purposes, not least for the gym or other indoor (outdoor) activities. Although Be Lenka itself states that Velocity is not a so-called high-intensity sports shoe (running shoe), it is possible to use Velocity for that too (by your own risk of cource) - many people want good toe space and the features of barefoot shoes for sports too!
Velocity can be cushioned more with a thicker insole when needed. This way, the shoe can be used for tennis and other more intense indoor sports. Of course, the shoe also goes great with jeans as a casual city shoe.
On the scale of thin-soled barefoot shoe - hybrid model - thick-soled barefoot shoe, I would place the Be Lenka Velocity with its own insole (total sole height is 9-10 mm) just in the category of "thin-soled barefoot shoe". If you put a thicker insole in the shoe, you'll go for a hybrid model, which is often quite good in different contexts. Play with insoles!
Suitability for barefoot shoe beginners
I don't recommend the Velocity as your first and only barefoot shoe, especially with the shoe's own insole if you want to walk more right away in your first pair of barefoot shoes. Of course, the shoe is better for the gym or any sport where don't heel strike that much. Still, the thinness of the sole can be a challenge for a beginner, especially if you run with it. Changing the insole to a more cushioning one is recommended, especially for beginners.

Suitability for experienced barefooters
Velocity is a great barefoot shoe for sports and casual use. By playing with the insole, you can get more features as needed! Just go for it!
