Be Lenka Synergy is new for us in spring 2025 - great shoe with a nice softness right out of the box and ankle height. By changing the insole, wearing the right socks and spraying the leather with a protective spray, the shoe will do at least half of the year (in Finland), as long as there is no snow on the ground.
This simple, stylish and functional barefoot shoe can be counted as a genuine barefoot shoe thanks to the thinness and flexibility of the sole. Synergy's own insole is thin and does not provide much additional cushioning to the sole - you can add cushioning by putting thicker insoles underneath. See our replacement insoles here.
Leather as a material naturally repels water, which makes Synergy work reasonably well even in normal rain. Of course, the shoe does not hold water indefinitely.
On the scale of pure barefoot shoe - hybrid model - thick-soled barefoot shoe, I count Synergy in the "pure barefoot shoe" category. By adjusting the insole and thicker socks, you can make the model a little more of a hybrid if you want.
Suitability for barefoot beginners:
I don't recommend Synergy as the first and only barefoot shoe if you want to walk more immediately with your first barefoot shoes. Changing the insole to a more cushioning one helps a lot, and also if you can moderately increase the amount of daily use (walking) little by little. Then you can use Synergy as first barefoot shoes if your physique is sufficient - models with slightly thicker soles are, however, a safer and often better option for beginners.
