Be Lenka ArcticEdge complements our Be Lenka winter shoe range well and it is also vegan unlike most Be Lenka winter shoes. The shoe is quite a bit more cushioned (17 mm) than some of Be Lenka's other warmest models (e.g. Winter 3.0 and Ranger 2.0). The toe box is perhaps a bit narrower and the shoe is not very high either from inside. On the other hand, the shoe's own insole can be easily removed, especially at the beginning, without the shoe losing its thermal properties (Primaloft lining is sewn into the entire shoe, including the sole), and this immediately increases the volume of the shoe. The modern appearance of the shoe crowns the whole.
ArcticEdge is a winter shoe for even the coldest weather! The shoe also has a water proof membrane inside the shoe. You won't get cold if you just move a little and wear woolen socks no matter what the weather is - on the other hand, an ankle-high shoe doesn't work as well in deep snow as the Winter 3.0 and other higher models.
On the scale of pure barefoot shoe - hybrid model - thick-soled barefoot shoe, I would put the ArcticEdge with its own insole in the category of thick-soled barefoot shoe. Without the insole, the shoe is a "hybrid shoe" - this model can be used without the insole even in winter!
Suitability for barefootshoe beginners:
Since the shoe has a total thickness and cushioning of up to 17 mm, the model is safe even for beginners. Of course, you should avoid kilometers of asphalt walk with hard heel first steps until you know your limits, but it won't be a disaster.
Test different models at the beginning and talk to barefoot experts!
Suitability for experienced barefooters:
ArcticEdge might feel a bit boring compared to Winter 3.0 for an experienced barefooter? On the other hand, take off the insole and the ground feel is immediately better - you can remove it in winter also because the sole still has insulation. In all aspects, ArcticEdge is a functional shoe, but it is not as its best in deep snow.
Note that the shoe is made in Vietnam and not in Europe like almost all other Be Lenka shoes.
